Hedging On The Same Pair
Updated 30 October 2026
FundedCobra allows many strategies, but holding both directions on the same instrument is not one of them.
What is the Rule?
No simultaneous Buy and Sell positions on the same instrument.
If you have an open Buy trade on US30, you cannot open a Sell trade on US30 until the Buy trade is closed. One direction per pair.
Trading many different pairs at the same time is completely fine.
What happens if I do it?
- Accounts opened from 20 August 2026: hedging the same pair ends the account.
- Accounts opened before 20 August 2026: your original rulebook applies. Check the rule card on your account page.
Why do we have this rule?
Hedging the same instrument is a common way to sit around a Daily Drawdown limit rather than manage risk. In a live market, holding both a long and a short on one pair pays swap and margin on both sides for no net exposure — it is not a strategy, it is a way to stall.
"Group Hedging" — buying an asset on one account and selling it on another — is treated as fraud, because one account is set up to pass at the expense of the other.
Example Scenarios
Scenario A: Violation
- You hold an open Buy position of 1 Lot on GBPUSD.
- The market drops. To "lock" the loss without closing, you open a 1 Lot Sell on GBPUSD.
- Result: You hold a Buy and a Sell at once on GBPUSD. On an account opened from 20 Aug 2026, the account ends here.
Scenario B: Allowed (Correlation)
- You hold an open Buy position on EURUSD.
- You open a Sell position on GBPUSD.
- Result: Allowed. Different pairs — that is a legitimate macro strategy, not hedging.
